Understanding quotations

Understanding your service quotation

What to look for when comparing accountancy quotations.

Compare the work included

A quotation should describe the tasks, reporting periods and outputs covered. Similar headline prices may cover different work.

Check the assumptions

Record quality, transaction volumes, employee numbers and reporting requirements can affect the work needed. Tell the accountant if your circumstances change.

Look for separately scoped work

Ask whether catch-up bookkeeping, extra advice or HMRC enquiries are included. Clarify how additional work would be agreed.

Understand the next step

Confirm the fee basis, any applicable VAT, validity and how to accept the quotation. A request for a quotation does not itself agree an engagement.
